Your Neighbor on the Council

I’m focused on:

  • Communication
  • Accessibility
  • Enthusiasm
  • Honesty

Priorities

I am committed to maintaining and enhancing the core fundamentals of our city. Public safety will always be my top priority, ensuring residents feel secure. I will uphold financial stability and manage our resources prudently. I will continue to invest in infrastructure, focusing on modernization and maintenance. Environmental stewardship will guide my policies, promoting sustainability. Support for non-profit organizations will be reinforced, recognizing their vital role.

I aim to improve the experience for residents and small businesses with city departments. I will foster positive interactions at the Building and Engineering Departments, ensuring efficient service. Code enforcement and nuisance issues will be addressed urgently and strategically. I will streamline the requirements for opening small businesses to support local entrepreneurship.

About Mike

As a dedicated public servant, I have had the honor of serving in various capacities on the City Council, County, and Regional Boards. In 2022, I served as Mayor Pro Tem and was elected Mayor in 2023. My journey on the City Council began in 2021 and continues into 2024. Additionally, I am a member of the Disaster Council, Financial Review Committee, and the Ocean Institute Board of Directors. My involvement extends to the Ocean Water Quality Subcommittee, Orange County Fire Authority, and several other county and regional boards, including the Orange County Housing Finance Trust and the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) General Assembly as an alternate.

Professionally, I studied Finance and Economics at the University of Colorado in 2002 and built a career in real estate analytics, focusing on financial modeling, accounting, purchasing, consulting, and operations within large-scale real estate companies. While I occasionally take on consulting projects, my primary focus is on serving my community. In 2010, I began volunteering on the board of directors for the Lantern Village Association, addressing Code Enforcement issues and promoting community efforts through “Pride Awards.” My civic engagement continued with a role on a city sub-committee on traffic and parking in 2013 and ongoing service on the City Financial Review Committee since 2019.

Personally, I have been a proud Lantern Village resident since 2009 and have actively served on the Lantern Village Association board since 2010. My wife Heidi and I have two young children who attend local schools. In 2010, I took a break from my corporate job to rebuild our home on Amber Lantern, undertaking much of the work myself. This experience deepened my understanding of our community and its various components. Owning property in Dana Point has fueled my passion for community service and my interest in local public policy, which I believe is crucial to our daily lives.
